Free shorts pattern – size 5y only –

I love making easy shorts for my boy.  We’re having a crazy hot summer here in Belgium and he can’t seem to have enough shorts so I made him a couple new ones using a simple pattern I drew. It’s super basic and easy to sew and has a ‘baggy’ fit.

You can download it for free here.

It’s only available in size 5 years (maat 110) because that’s the size my boy wears.  I don’t plan on grading it since I’m enjoying this summer so much and I prefer being outside instead of behind my computer 😀.  It’s a one piece pattern and back and front are identical.

Just sew side seems and middle seam (seam allowance is included, info on pattern sheet).  Hem legs 2cm at the bottom and at the top hem with 4cm and add an elastic in the waist.  That’s it! Easy peasy!

I love to finish this shorts by adding a fake, non functional piece of string.  On the grey one I made two button holes and added the string through the button holes.  If you want to be quicker (or are a bit lazy like me sometimes haha) you can just sew it on top of the waistband.  When my boy wears his shorts a hardly notice the difference.

You can choose to leave the length, roll up the pants or change the length as you wish.

I hope I can help a few people out with this pattern that’s far from perfect but by far perfect to me for my boy who loves playing outside and getting dirty :).
