Millie top in See You At Six fabric

NL/ENG

Never change a winning team.

My winning team last year was, together with the Millie dress, a Millie top combined with a gathered skirt.  The outfit I made last year was one of our favourite winter outfits and it still fits my girl.  When I saw the new See You At Six collection I immediately jumped on it and ordered some plain French Terry to make me a Millie top again.  I love the weight of the fabric for this model.

To make this Millie top I used my Millie pattern.  For the back I used the bodice piece without the ruffles and for the front I used the bodice piece with the ruffles.  So on the back of this top there are no ruffles.

I used size 6 and added 16cm length to both bodice pieces (including hem allowance).  I measured a shirt that fits my girl perfect and calculated how much length I had to add to the bodice pieces.  You can do this easily yourself for any size.  For the ruffle I used the measurements you find in my manual and made them 10cm shorter.

At the bottom the shirt is hemmed with 2cm and finished with a twin needle except on the place of the ruffles.  At the shoulders the ruffle is inserted in the shoulder seam.  The collection of See You At Six always has matching ribbing so I can’t say no to that!  I first reduced the neckline with 1cm and added ribbing that’s 4cm high on 31cm long (75% of the neckline).

For the skirt I used the copper grid cotton lawn from one of the previous See You At Six collections.  The fabric is restocked so available again, yay!  I made an easy gathered skirt using 2 times the fabric width to create extra volume.  The skirt is lined with a plain cotton which I cut 2cm shorter.

The elastic I used for the waist is also from See You At Six.  The sisters Sluijs who design these collections make sure all the fabrics match with each other And make sure you have all the matching haberdashery.  They are just ingenious!

Finally a picture without a cookie.  I’m so sorry for that, but oh boy was it easy to make a bunch a photos while she was eating her cookie.  I hope that this explanation was clear enough so you can make your own Millie top.  Otherwise just let me know in a comment below this post if you prefer a step by step photo tutorial!

  1. Nicky, wonderschoon plaatje weeral!

  2. So lovely that Millie top.
Yes to the photo step by step or picture closeup of the ruffles on the shoulder and bottom.
